NFL Combine: Trevor Canfield

"American Idol" NFL style kicked off this week at Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis. The first group of players arrived Wednesday afternoon to begin the process of being thoroughly examined by NFL teams. Six members of the UC Bearcats were invited to the scouting combine including offensive lineman Trevor Canfield, who met with the media Thursday. Here is a condensed version of what Trevor said to the media that gathered when his name was announced. Pay attention to the last answer. A fire alarm is sounded and everyone is asked to evacuate the building. Notice how Trevor keeps his composure and completes his answer. Too bad the team scouts weren't on hand for this test of "concentration".

We apologize for the length, but we feel it tells the story of what he went through as well as the questions thrown at him. We cut out several short answers. As those around us were evaluating the "fire alarm situation" we grabbed Trevor for a quick one on one interview.

You may have noticed that Trevor used the phrase "yes sir" during his press gathering at the podium. This was not an act for the NFL or the media today. In the many interviews we have done with him he is always been the ultimate gentleman, and once again today he made us proud to be wearing the "C-Paw" on our jackets. Kevin Huber is part of the same group but was unavailable to the media. No kickers, punters, or specialist were brought to the media room. Friday we will have more on our trip to the combine including an interview with NFL Network analyst Solomon Wilcotts and Bengals senior web writer Geoff Hobson. See What's Going On at Senior Week

Through out the day we have been getting updates on how the Bearcats are doing at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Al. Now it's time to show you what's going on. Here is some video from today's practice and some comments from a couple of Bearcat Seniors.

We want to thank Randy Patrick, the sports director at WKRG for his help today getting us video of the Bearcats in action and doing the interviews. Ironically, Randy went to McNicolas High School and was more than happy to talk with fellow Rocket Kevin Huber. It turns out they know some of the same people.....in Cincinnati, imagine that. We can't thank Randy enough and hopefully he will be able to send us more as the week of practice continues on. Barwin, Underwood Added to East Squad

Two more Bearcats were added to the roster for the East West Shrine Bowl.  This is one of the oldest and most respected post season bowls.   The rosters are made up of outstanding senior talent from all over the country.  Trevor Canfield was named to the East roster earlier, and his team mates Connor Barwin and Brandon Underwood were added this week.   Proceeds from the game go the the Shriners Hospitals for Children.  Being selected for this All Star Bowl has been an honor for many years. Another Big Game

For the past 4 weeks the football team has been playing with an elimination tournament mentallity. Win and keep going, loose and go home. Saturday night the road continues, except at least this time they are at home.

Look Back at Louisville

Tuesday afternoon the Bearcats were back on the practice field getting ready for the Pitt Panthers. After practice we caught up with a few players and talked about some of the elements that made last weekends win over Louisville so special.

We also talked about the game this week against Pitt. We will post those comments later in the week. The feel after practice yesterday is that this team is focused on the task at hand. They appear very business like in their approach. The last 4 games have been must win games to keep the dream of a BCS Bowl alive. It's another must win game, no different that the ones leading up to it. The attitude is like " all we have to do is just keep doing what we've been doing".
