Bearcat defensive back Mike Mickens has left the Senior Bowl with an injury. Due to privacy laws nothing about the injury can be disclosed, Senior Bowl official Kevin McDermond would only state that he was being sent home Tuesday. Mickens did have knee surgery toward the end of the season but was back in time for the Orange Bowl.
In other news from Mobile, Bearcat Sports Page.com spoke with Bengal assistant defensive back coach Louie Cioffi and he said the Bearcats are
doing well, " we just finished our second practice so I haven't seen them all, but from what I've seen they are doing well". When asked how they are stacking up against the other players he said, "they definitely belong here. They are representing themselves and the school very well. The program at UC has prepared them as NFL caliber players."
Connor
Barwin is on the roster as a tight end. Connor told us last week before he left that they already had enough defensive ends on the roster, they put him a tight end so he could be on the team. "We are using him on both sides off the ball, he's a tight end in certain situations and when we want him to rush the quarterback he lines up as a defensive end", said Cioffi when asked about Barwin. "I've got the DB's so I haven't seen him much, yet", he added. Also constricted by privacy laws the Bengal assistant coach was unable to say anything about Mike Mickens injury.
We will be checking back in with Coach Cioffi throughout the week as well as other coverage on the UC players from the Senior Bowl. So for your best Senior Bowl Coverage, check back at Bearcat Sports Page.com.
