Thanksgiving Memories

Today the team will celebrate Thanksgiving with a morning workout at Nippert, then they go celebrate the holiday. Years ago it was a much longer day for the team. During the 1950's the Bearcats suited up on Thanksgiving Day for their annual rivalry with Miami. Television and conference obligations brought the tradition to an end, but in it's day Cincinnati was all about rivalry football before the bird hit the table.
Jim's father, Jim Kelly, Sr., was a member of the football staff during the 1950's. Jim never got to play on Thanksgiving day, the tradition ended before he started playing in the 1970's. The tradition was reborn for one brief Thanksgiving afternoon in the 1984 at Riverfront Stadium.
