Graduation Rates

Being in a BCS Bowl game brings instant increased press coverage, both good and bad.  Instead of "Joe the Plumber" it's "Joe the Bearcat" for the national news and it's coverage of the teams.  With no one on the practice field  and the games still weeks away, what do the writers write about?  A reporter from the Boston Globe has an article poking fun at graduation rates for the BCS and bowl bound teams.  According to his article, Oklahoma has a graduation rate of just 46%.  He also points out, according to his research, that Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, and Utah are all below 50% with their graduation rate of black student athletes.   UC gets some great publicity in this article when he shows UC gradation numbers for black student athletes at 68% and white student athletes at 81%.   It's nice to know that UC is able to shine when the biggest spotlight ever is shining directly on them.   This is a credit to the coaches, the administration and Mike Thomas for his leadership in this area.
