Mississippi State Tonight

No one makes the NCAA tournament in December, but big non conference wins definitely make a difference in March. Thursday night the Bearcats have the chance to collect one of those "quality wins" the selection committee likes. Mississippi State comes to town as part of the SEC Big East Invitational being played at US Bank Arena downtown. The team knows this is an important game.

The morning edition of The Cincinnati Enquirer had an article about the importance of the sophomores in the teams success. Developing the youth of this team is crucial, guys like Alvin Mitchell and Yancy gates.

The Mississippi State game is the first part of a double header. In the second game Louisville takes on Mississippi and it's head coach Andy Kennedy. Of course UC plays Louisville when conference play starts next month. Coach Cronin plans of watching the Cardinals, that is...he'll watch as much as he can.

Mississippi State is a decent foe but the Bearcats match up very well against them. If UC can get Varnado in foul trouble early, they should be able to control the glass, as he's their only real rebounding threat. He had four fouls in his last game against South Alabama, although he still finished with 21 points, 8 board and 6 blocks.

If they can't neutralize him, then the Bearcats had better hope their outside shot is on; Varnado averages 6.2 blocks a game and can dominate any inside game.

We're looking for knowledgeable UC Bearcats bloggers at www.collegefanz.com, the largest college sports site on the net. College Fanz was started by ESPN founder Bill Rasmussen and our fans are multiplying exponentially these days.

All you'd have to do is copy and paste full articles or stories, then link back to your original blog (if you desire). That way, you'll increase traffic to your original blog and increase awareness about Cincy sports. It's a win-win, because we would love to have thoughtful, knowledgeable Bearcats info on our site.

Take a look around and let me know what you think at mgleeson@collegefanz.com
