Lucky #17--'Cats end second straight season as Nations 17th best team

It was announced just about an hour ago that Florida, after it's 24-14 victory in the BCS National Title game, would claim the Associated Press No. 1 spot.  The Utah Utes, behind strong national sentiment within the past week, claimed the No. 2 spot.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham had this too say about his Utes No. 2 finish after a perfect season and not getting the nod at No. 1.

"I thought we had an outside chance.  There was enough national sentiment, I thought we might get the No. 1 spot.  It wasn't to be."

"All you can do is go out and beat the people on the schedule, which was exactly what our guys did."

'Cats sign off at No. 17

The UC Football team will end the season with a very respectable ranking, identical to last year, at No. 17.  Comment has not been issued by Coach Kelly or the UC Athletic department.  Look for closing comments to come.

UC missed a chance at a top ten finish after a defeat in the FedEx Orange Bowl, to then No. 19 Virginia Tech, 20-7.  VT ended the year just two slots ahead of the Bearcats.
